Effective and Efficient Filing System
Filing is yet another duty most people either procrastinate over or do inefficiently, but this is an area where one should not stress over.
There are two main points to consider. Firstly bulk file at least twice per week, and secondly file the items into a well organised system. Lacking in this area and ultimately misplacing an important document can cost you both time and money so establish an effective system from day one if possible and adhere to it!
The System I Use
For reference material on my properties I have segregated draws into sections labeled ‘A’ to ‘Z’. ‘A’ is be for plumbing information, ‘B’ is be for roofing, ‘C’ for Kitchens and so on. (I never bother trying to match the letter with the title as the letter ‘P’ could stand for plumbing, plastering, painting etc). Then within each section like ‘A’ for example I further segregate into numbers. For example ‘A1′ would be for taps, ‘A2′ would be for sinks and so on.
Until the system sinks in the person doing the filing will require a quick reference chart or code breaker. I usually stick this on the front of draws. After time however it become second nature and you will reduce the amount of time looking for specific paperwork.
