Comfort Zone Challenges
Do you think a fish that has only ever lived in a small fish tank, knows that there is a bigger World outside of the tank? This is exactly the same for people inside of The Rat Race, they know of no other life, because society needs the majority of the population to be like worker ants, otherwise society would break down! Therefore we are brain washed at a young age. I am testament that even if one is brought up to be a worker ant; it’s still possible to break free from the cycle.
Find the time to undertake some of these challenges. Even if it takes you all year to do the majority of them. They are designed to stretch your imagination, but more importantly they give you a taste of what life is like inside and outside of The Rat Race.
This list is growing and if you have any suggestions please post a comment and I’ll add the best ones. Also if you try any of the challenges let me know what happened by also posting a comment.
I’ll also be dedicating a full page to some of these as some are important and valuable challenges which you must undertake if you are serious about becoming financially free.
- Every day for seven days walk up to a girl or boy and ask him or her for their phone number. If you’re married or already with someone then this exercise is simply trying to get you to step outside your comfort zone, it doesn’t mean you are being unfaithful; just don’t forget to throw away the number afterwards. If you are single; happy hunting!
- Go to your nearest cemetery and spend a few hours reading a few headstones. Think about what these people were like when they were alive. Were they good people, were they loved, were they hated, are they missed, did they leave a legacy? To appreciate life you need to respect death. Death is all part of life’s journey, but do you want to live to work, or work to live?
- For a whole month smile at everyone who walks past you. See how many smile back at you, you’ll be surprised.
- Spend a week saying yes to every question, no matter what it is.
- Spend a week saying no to every question, no matter what it is.
- Write a rap song about your life so far.
- Imagine you could ask a friend or close family member for help with your biggest problem in life, imagine what their answers would be, what advice would they give you?
- Visit a high street coffee shop (there’s one on every corner now) on a Monday morning during rush hour, order your favorite beverage, sit next to a window and people watch; observe The Rat Race in its full flow.
- When no one is watching super glue a coin on your pavement outside your house and observe people trying to pick it up, and then how embarrassed they get when they can’t!
- If you have children make up a bedtime story for them, invoke your imagination. If you don’t have kids make one up for yourself.
- Watch no television for a whole month. I first did this challenge a year ago. I now watch about an hour of TV each week. The news, soap operas, documentaries; they’re all depressing, sad and focus too much on the bad things in life.
- Visit your local art gallery and pick a painting, observe it, try and see the story behind the canvas.
- Send someone you love an anonymous thank you card or a gift. Tell them how wonderful they are.
- Ring up a loved one and say; ‘I’m calling because I want you to know that I love you, there’s nothing wrong with me, I just think it’s important that I tell you I love you as well as showing you I love you’.
- Give a days wage to a charity or good cause.
- Pick a sample of your friends, call them and tell them that your wage is going to be late going in to your account, ask if you can lend about £1000 to cover your bills. See how many say yes unconditionally. Don’t take this money; just say your wage got paid in time.
- Book a table at a restaurant and ask the waiter to ask the chef to order a 3 course meal for you along with a suitable bottle of wine. If you enjoyed the meal send your compliments to the chef.
- Turn your mobile phone off for a full week, see how distressed you become. (Don’t forget to tell everyone what you are doing as they will fear the worse).
- Book the cheapest flight you can find on the Internet, even if it’s your own Country; just make sure it’s somewhere you’ve never been to before.
- Spend a day complimenting every person you meet in a day, watch the difference it makes to their faces.
- Type the name of your favorite childhood cartoon character in You Tube. Spend a few moments watching some cartoons; you’ll be amazed at how many memories come back to you.
- Ask yourself today what you can do tomorrow to make a difference to your life. Action it in the morning and make that difference.
- Spend all day in bed being lazy. When most people work hard they wish they could be back in bed all nice and warm; it’s over rated! You will be bored by dinner time. This proves that we must keep active; we are not built to stay stationary. Fulfill your time with life experiences. This is important training for mini-retirements.
- Make a list of all the little jobs around your home which need doing. Wake up tomorrow morning at 5am and work through your list. Procrastination keeps you locked into The Rat Race, learn to beat it.
- Go to a toy shop and buy one of your favorite childhood toys (if they still make them), spend an hour playing with it. This will bring back a lot of memories, plus its fun!
- Liberate yourself and spend all day at home and naked. Try not to offend anyone you live with! We were born naked so spend a day being unclothed and free of clothes which label you as rich, fashionable, dull, loud etc.
- De-clutter your house and give possessions away to some who has very little. Throughout our lives we collect possessions, in the end, they are worthless. Its memories that matter, not belongings.
- Go through your wardrobe and get rid of at least 50% of your clothes. The 80/20 rule applies to your clothes. You only wear 20% of your wardrobe. Give the clothes to your local charity.
- Write down what you think will be written on your headstone. Don’t just write what you would like written, write down what will probably be written, be blunt and truthful. If you have wrote something like ‘Here lies a selfish man, he did nothing for everyone and everything for himself’; then change your ways as your headstone will be free from flowers!
- I find solutions to problems and also find my greatest ideas when I’m relaxing in the bath, softly lit by candles with some ambient music quietly playing in the back ground. Find your relaxation zone and spend at least an hour a week in there. Let your thoughts flow wildly.
- Spend a full day making discussions using a flip of a coin. Let fait decide for a day.
